some thoughts about living and dining room
This is the communication center - you sit down and enjoy the company of your family or your friends. It's not your private sanctuary (this would be your bedroom or your family room).
The dining rooms main function is to provide the environment for to enjoy a good meal, but it's also the place where your kids do their home work - even if they have their own little office, it's also the room where you greet friends - it's an important room!
As simple as it sounds the main piece of furniture is a big enough table with some chairs where you can sit for hours.
The living rooms main function is to provide some comfortable seating, maybe a place to watch some movies or/and a place to store books, CD's and other memorables. Keep in mind the living room is not a storage room, it's not an electronic equipment showroom either - it's a place where you are ready for communication with family and friends.
As your designer we can give input and ideas on layout, furniture, material and color - but you as the user have to determine the direction and ultimately you have to make decisions.
some 'crazy' thoughts...
To find your way - you need to dream and also explore the not so usual ideas - here are some:
-
combine dining and living room in one large dining room - guest actually like to sit on a table and most of the time do not feel comfortable sitting in living room furniture
- if you have space enough, add a small but long 'standing table' - like you see it in old pubs
- use single but comfortable chairs instead of a sectionals - they are more flexible
and there will be no 'odd' seating arrangements
- get rid of the bulky 'entertainment center', use a projector or a media computer instead
ready?
